Neill Blomkamp Might Still Direct a New Alien Movie

When Neill Blomkamp released this awesome concept art for an Alien movie he was working on, we all thought it was too good to be true. And indeed, Blomkamp said that he didn't think the project would ever become a reality. But now, while promoting his third feature, Chappie, the District 9 and Elysium director told Collider that he "still may make that film."

Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph

When asked why he made that concept art, Blomkamp replied, "There was a reason. I wanted to make that film. I still may make that film. [Laughs] It may happen. But I did it on my own time. Like when Chappie was winding down in post and I had available time, I started to work on it. It was also from talking to Sigourney [Weaver] during the making of this. I mean, I asked her about Alien all the time. Alien and Aliens are my favorite films. So I genuinely wanted to make that film, I came up with the story, I came up with way more art than I put out and I never officially spoke to Fox about it, but Fox wanted to make it. So, I kind of touched on it and I didn't know what to do, and I didn't know if I was just gonna go leave directing for a whole bunch of time and then I was like, 'I might as well put some art out.' But I may make it. I don't know. That's where it stands."

Wtf?

So everything is obviously still very uncertain, but it sounds like there is interest on both sides. Blomkamp is definitely game to make an Alien sequel, while the studio may be intrigued by the project as well. And it would certainly make financial sense if they did reboot the beloved franchise, since the film industry is relying more and more on built-in fanbases these days. And really, the fans won't be disappointed as long as it's at least better than that God-awful Prometheus spin-off.

Woulda rocked. Was a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created.
