Gotham Will Introduce the Joker Next Week!

First, the powers-that-be at Gotham said they would tease a potential Joker every week in the first season, but wouldn't introduce him until later. Then, they said they would introduce the Joker storyline before the end of season one, but in a subtle way. Turns out, that was a lie as well, as they are very boldly promoting the Joker's appearance on next week's episode, entitled "The Blind Fortune Teller":

In this promo, they list the main villains we've met in the show, including several DC classics like Penguin, Catwoman, and Riddler, and then states that the next villain is "no joke." This either means that they're introducing the Joker next week, or that this is the most misleading and infuriating promo of all time.

The Joker will reportedly be a character named Jerome, who will show up when Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) takes Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) to the circus. He will reportedly be played by Cameron Monaghan, a young actor best known for Showtime dramedy Shameless, as well as a role in the recent and underwhelming adaptation of The Giver. The actor is only twenty-one, so it looks like they're introducing a very early version of the Joker who is relatively close to Bruce Wayne's age, just as they introduced a teenage version of the Scarecrow last week.

Here's the official summary of the episode:

Gordon takes Dr. Leslie Thompkins (guest star Morena Baccarin) to the circus, but the day turns quickly when the circus comes under attack. Then, Falcone enlists Butch Gilzean to help Penguin with the night club, while Fish Mooney is otherwise occupied. Also, Bruce Wayne schedules a meeting with the Wayne Enterprises board in the all-new "The Blind Fortune Teller" episode of GOTHAM.

Guest Cast: Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean; Morena Baccarin as Dr. Leslie Thompkins; Carol Kane as Gertrude Kapelput; Anthony Carrigan as Victor Zsasz; Dashiell Eaves as Kelly; James Monroe Iglehart as Ringmaster; Robert Gorrie as John Grayson; Abbi Snee as Mary Lloyd; Cameron Monaghan as Jerome.

Gotham's "The Blind Fortune Teller" airs next Monday, February 16 at 8pm ET.
