The Flash: Extended Trailer for Next Week's Episode Finally Confirms Time Travel
After months of teasing, The Flash is fully embracing its comic book roots and explicitly introducing time travel into the proceedings in the next episode, entitled "Fallout":
Time travel was first teased on the show in the second episode, when Harrison Wells alluded to the fact that Barry Allen will be called "The Flash" in the future. But the hints have been getting heavier and heavier, especially with Barry discovering that his blood was at his mother's murder scene last week, and next week, the show is going full-on time travel. Barry sees with his own two eyes that his adult self was present when his mother was murdered, and vows to change the past and prevent her death. What could possibly go wrong?
This development will come as no surprise to fans of the comics, in which Barry Allen is often able to travel through time. We'll see how they choose to explain this ability in the show, but in the comics, the canonical explanation is that Barry's super speed allows for quantum tunneling, a process in which quantum particles are able to pass through barriers that wouldn't be passable according to classical physics.
The Flash episode "Fallout" will air on February 17 at 8pm ET on The CW.
