Bryan Singer Unveils Concept Art for X-Men: Apocalypse

Bryan Singer has been busy teasing fans about his next installment into the X-Men franchise over the last few weeks, but up until now the director had failed to provide anything of substance for us to chew on. Today though, Singer unveiled a stunning piece of concept art for X-Men: Apocalypse via his Instagram account, and it appears to show Wolverine in his more traditional yellow costume admiring an incredibly mysterious structure.

Some production art. #XmenApocalypse #GrantMajor I was a little busy but will continue to snap more.

The art piece was created by Grant Major, and while it is beautiful in its own right, you can't help but think that the reason Singer chose this particular piece to share was because of its blurry mystique. It's not clear exactly what the giant structure in the image is, but judging by its size and futuristic appearance there's a good its the ancient alien spacecraft known as the 'Ship'. In comic book canon, Apocalypse elevates his mutant powers after coming into contact with the sentient vessel, which eventually plays a huge role in multiple arcs of the X-Men series. This is, of course, just one of many theories on the structure's identity, so we'll leave it to you to decide what you think it is.

Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse is being touted as the final installment in a trilogy of movies, which started with X-Men First Class and last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past. The likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence all reprise their roles from the previous two movies, while X-Men: Apocalypse also welcomes Oscar Isaac as the titular villain, Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops. X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to start production this April, with a release date pencilled in for May 27th 2016. In the meantime, Bryan Singer will almost certainly be teasing more images like the ones below....
