Rumor Mongering: Will Star Wars: The Force Awakens Kill Off One of the Old Guard?

There seems to be a new so-called "spoiler" for Star Wars: The Force Awakens every hour, each one more outlandish than the next. But a new report not only seems a little more credible than usual, it would be a huge spoiler if it's true. According to Star Wars spoiler site Making Star Wars, one of the returning cast members from the original trilogy will be unceremoniously killed off early in the film.

SPOILER ALERT! No but really, you can't unsee this.

Supposedly, the following scene was confirmed to be filmed on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens set:

"This sequence takes place on the ramparts of The Evil Castle.

Han Solo is hiding.

He decides to reveal himself to Kylo Renn.

Finn, Rey, Chewbacca and BB-8 stop in their tracks.

They watch as Han Solo confronts Kylo Ren. Kylo Rnn silences the conversation forever.

Chewbacca lets out of a barrage of angry roars and laser blasts.

Kylo Ren flees the scene.

Explosions. Stormtroopers file in and Finn and Rey are forced to flee. More explosions. BB-8 and Chewbacca flee to the Falcon."

According to this source, Han Solo is never seen again in the film after this scene. This, coupled with the fact that Han's best friend, Chewie, is visibly upset, seems to indicate that fan favorite Han Solo dies early in the film. This would also indicate that the glimpse of Kylo Ren and the crucifix lightsaber in the teaser comes directly after Han's demise. Although rumors about films, particularly huge franchises like Star Wars, should always be taken with a grain of salt, Making Star Wars is extremely emphatic about the trustworthiness of their source and the information:

"This is verified as having been shot at Pinewood. These are scenes and the documented players in them. This information is very accurate and very broad... This is the first spoiler I've had where I've known it was so apparently accurate I was floored by it... We have seen documentation this is what was filmed. There is no speculative spin to [this report]."

Although this would be a huge spoiler, it wouldn't actually come as that much of a surprise. Rumors that Han would be killed off have been around since the original trilogy, this is just the most specific report we've heard so far. Harrison Ford has always wanted the character to go out in a "blaze of glory," and it makes sense that the writers would choose to kill off one of the old guard in order to raise the emotional stakes for the new Jedi roster.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out on December 18.
