Marvel Goes Exceedingly Dark in New Daredevil Trailer
We keep hearing that the Netflix original series from Marvel will be "grittier" than the upbeat, often silly movie universe, but this trailer goes to great lengths to drive that point home:
Vincent D'Onofrio is genuinely unsettling as Kingpin, a Marvel Comics supervillain who is described as "one of the most feared and powerful crime lords in the Marvel Universe," and the parallels drawn between him and Matt Murdock, while somewhat obvious, get the job done. The filmography is dark, the action bracingly violent, and the city comes off as dark and despairing, especially when the clearly victimized Karen Page (True Blood's Deborah Ann Woll) makes an appearance.
There are a few lines that made me cringe a little; the "you're blind, but you see so much" was particularly heavy-handed. But even if it's not the subtlest show on Earth, it could still be an entertaining meditation on good and evil and an interesting departure for Marvel.
All episodes of Marvel's Daredevil will begin streaming on Netflix on April 10.
