Who Will Die on the Walking Dead Finale This Weekend?
Place your bets now guys, because it's not a matter of whether a major character will die this weekend, but which major character will die this weekend. Norman Reedus said to "bring tissues" when you watch the finale, but really, we didn't need that hint, because the season finale is always chock-full of carnage. The back half of the season has been building towards a confrontation between the Alexandrians and the Rickettes, so it's safe to say some of the Alexandrians will bite the dust (hopefully not Aaron!), but which core member will make us reach for the tissues?

Here are the options, vaguely in order from most to least likely:

Glenn

In the comics, Glenn (spoiler!) is brutally killed by Negan with a baseball bat made of barbed wire just after finding out that Maggie is pregnant. So far, there's no mention of Maggie being pregnant, and Negan hasn't technically shown up yet. But there have been repeated references to the Wolves, some kind of rival group that is making its way closer to Alexandria, and this will probably pay off in the season finale in some way. The Wolves could be the Scavengers, or the Saviors, or a mixture of both, but if Negan shows up, there's a chance that they'll want to introduce him in a dramatic way and kill off a major character.

Or, alternatively, they could depart from the comics altogether, and Glenn could meet his demise as a result of the burgeoning conflict with Nicholas, who we saw in the last episode was the one who stole Rick's gun. Glenn seems to be in a prime place to die; he's loved by everyone but is not necessarily central to the plot, but has been through enough development that it wouldn't feel like part of his character arc was missing. I hate to say it, because I don't want Glenn to die, but he very well might be a goner.

Carol

Carol is a little less likely than Glenn because she's taken up the mantle of one of the show's resident "badasses," and The Walking Dead doesn't like to kill off its badasses. Plus, her attempts to blend in and play Stepford wife have opened up a few new possibilities for her character. But that being said, her character has still been through a lot, and she's a guest on Talking Dead next week. As much as I'm sure the writers would be loathe to kill her off, she's more expendable than Daryl or Rick.

Sasha

Sasha has been somewhat central this season, but the audience hasn't actually gotten very attached to her. This could either mean that she's a prime candidate to die, because she's more expendable, or that she's less likely to die. As we saw with Beth, Noah, and countless others really, the writers like to make sure we've gotten marginally attached to a character before killing them off. Plus, if the Wolves really are the Scavengers, then Sasha seems to be a replacement for Andrea's role as Rick's sharp-shooting savior.

Daryl

Yes, yes, I know, if Daryl dies we riot. But the synopsis for the finale reveals that "Daryl gets into trouble on a run," and Norman Reedus is a guest on Talking Dead this week. Plus, his character arc doesn't really seem to be going anywhere, and after a particularly brutal season, I can easily see how the writers would feel the need to kill off a fan favorite, someone everyone assumes is safe, in order to top themselves for the finale.

Rick

Rick has been rapidly losing it this season, culminating in last week's episode when he went full-on Shane. We all know how that ended, so this could mean that Rick is done for next episode. He's the star of the show, and he's become more popular this season. but again, the writers may feel pressure to shake things up, especially since the fast pace of this season has been so well-received. It would be an incredibly bold move, so it seems unlikely, but it's possible.

Unlikely: Maggie, Michonne, Tara, Rosita, Abraham, Carl, Judith

The Grimes offspring seem safe, although I'm sure a portion of the audience wishes they weren't. Maggie and Michonne are two more resident badasses who haven't gotten enough screentime to qualify for a farewell. Tara's already been seriously injured as a red herring, so it seems too soon to kill her off, and Abraham and Rosita haven't been developed enough yet.

Wish List: Eugene and/or Father Gabriel

Both of these characters are annoying, and even if they serve a purpose, the group only needs one resident coward. But Lord knows The Walking Dead doesn't need to kill off any more black male characters this season, so we'll just stick with Eugene. His cowardice was almost understandable, but the fact that he's not even contrite makes him impossible to care about. He's unlikely to die, since the show just started a redemption arc for him a few episodes ago, but I kind of wish he would.

The Walking Dead finale will be 90 minutes long, and will air this Sunday at 9pm on AMC.
