Awesome Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Artwork Previews the Revelation of Mockingbird's Backstory
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has begun a lovely tradition in which they release amazing artwork that previews the subject of the episode for that week. Last week it was a beautiful poster of Ward and Agent 33, but this week Bobbi Morse is taking center stage:

Awesome Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Artwork Previews Mockingbird's Backstory

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeff Bell discussed how the style of the artwork related to the layered, slightly opaque character: "What I like about this image...[is] from a distance, it's a simple, clean graphic. It's visually striking. And you get close, and there's just a ton of stuff going on. There's just lots of detail, lots of little things, lots of movement... And the fact they... kept the basics there and then threw overlaying and complications and made it so much more than that, I think also speaks to the character."

Bobbi Morse aka Mockingbird has quickly become a fan favorite, although the audience still doesn't know much about her backstory. On Tuesday, that will all change, as this week's episode, "One Door Closes," will focus on her enigmatic history and her relationship with "the real S.H.I.E.L.D."

Bell said of Mockingbird headlining the upcoming episode: "I think it's a great spotlight for her. We're finally explaining 'oh, this is why Bobbi and Mack feel the way they do about this whole thing.'... Right now, what's fun is, 'oh, HYDRA isn't so much the antagonist as much as another faction of S.H.I.E.L.D. seems to be the new antagonist.'"

Bell also discussed Mockingbird's conflicting loyalties, and her place in relation to the ethics of the show: "One of the things I find interesting about her is she seems to be more of an ideologue-she's loyal to an idea-and sometimes, the short term of what appears to be betrayal or short term conflict is often because of what she views as the greater good. And that's an interesting character to have in a world where Coulson is much more "we need to protect or save that person." Are you loyal to a person? Are you loyal to the guy in the bunker next to you? Or are you loyal to the larger concept of what we're fighting for?"

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s fifteenth episode, "One Door Closes," airs on Tuesday at 8pm on ABC.
