Joss Whedon Says Avengers: Age of Ultron Will Not Have a Post-Credits Scene, No Captain Marvel
The post-credit bonus scene has been a hallmark of Marvel movies ever since Iron Man was released in 2008, but that's (kind of) all about to end on May 1st when Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters.

"There is nothing at the very end. And that's not a fake-out," Whedon says. "We want people to know so they don't sit there for 10 minutes and then go: 'Son of a bitch! I'll kill them!'"

After Whedon's first Avengers movie, fans were entertained with the now-famous 'Shawarma scene', which depicted a battle-weary Avengers team recharging in one of New York's classic eateries. It was a small Easter-egg, which got an incredibly big reaction, but that's not an easy thing to do...

Whedon believes that, that famous 'Shawarma scene' from the end of the first Avengers movie is too hard to top, saying "It didn't seem to lend itself in the same way, and we wanted to be true to what felt right. The first rule of making a sequel is take the best moments and do something else. Don't do the Indiana Jones gun trick again differently. Just go somewhere else. Don't try to hit the same highs, because people will sense it."

That's an admirable sentiment, because the Shawarma scene really was one of those classic moments that had everyone in theaters whooping for joy, and to try and top it could potentially fall flat and cheapen the whole idea of a post-credits scene. But don't be fooled by Whedon's comments, because Marvel's Kevin Feige has added a bit more context, saying that while there will not be a post-post-credits scene, there will still be some action to stick around for after the Avengers: Age of Ultron credits initially get rolling.

"There will be a tag," said Feige. "That is, there will be a short, epilogue-like scene that pops up shortly after the credits start. "But there's not a post-post-credit scene."

It's a testament to how involved fans are with Marvel's storytelling that this is even an issue. The post-credits scene is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a Marvel invention, but they certainly have become the best at pulling it off. It's a useful promotional tool, too. Marvel has successfully used post-credits scenes to build excitement for future installments in their interwoven storytelling universe, and many were expecting the studio to take the opportunity afforded by Avengers: Age of Ultron to tease another of their upcoming movies, specifically Captain Marvel. But Feige has confirmed the Marvel legend will not be appearing in Joss Whedon's movie, nor will she be teased at the end of it.
