Female-Led Titles Represent Seven of the Top Ten Comics Sold During Comixology's Marvel Sale
Anyone who thought that women don't read comics- or that men won't buy female-led comics- is eating some serious crow today. Digital comics seller Comixology had a "buy one, get one free" sale for their Marvel comics last month, and of the top ten issues sold during the promotion, seven were led by female superheroes.

Here are the top ten Marvel comics sold by Comixology last month:

1. Silk #1
2. Star Wars #2
3. Darth Vader #1
4. Star Wars #1
5. Ms. Marvel #12
6. Ms. Marvel #11
7. Ms. Marvel #10
8. Thor #5
9. Ms. Marvel #9
10. Thor #4

"Out of thousands of Marvel comics sold over the course of the Marvel BOGO Sale, 7 of the top 10 issues starred a Marvel female superhero," said Comixology in a press release. The results, they added, "prov[e] that the Women of Marvel are here to stay!"

Although many may be surprised by this news, the landscape of comics has long been shifting. Not only are we getting more female protagonists and more diversity in general (not enough, but more), but female-led comics have been proving to be extremely lucrative as well. For a recent example, the first four issues of the new female Thor series have been outselling her male predecessor. These trends demonstrate that not only is representation a good in itself, but it just makes good business sense not to alienate half your audience.
