Avengers: Age of Ultron Set For Biggest North American Opening of All Time
At WonderCon this weekend, we found ourselves debating the box office prospects of two of the year's biggest movies: Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Which movie would bring in the most money? Which movie would survive poor reviews? In most cases, people said that it would be JJ Abrams' movie which would be crowned victorious, but even if that is the case, Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to give The Force Awakens a serious run for its money when it hits theaters in the US on May 1st.

According to THR those in the know in the box office tracking industry believe that Age of Ultron is set to top the $207.4 million that its predecessor brought in on its debut back in 2012. This tracking forecast is bolstered by reports from online ticketing service, Fandango, which suggest that pre-orders for Avenger: Age of Ultron screenings are well ahead of those for the Avengers at the same time back in 2012.

If Age of Ultron does beat the Avengers, it will officially hold the record for the largest North American opening of all time. The question is, though, how long will Joss Whedon's movie hold that record for? When the teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted last year, it rapidly became the most watched trailer of all time, and if that level of interest continues through next week's Star Wars Celebration and into the its December 18th release, it's hard to see JJ Abrams' movie not smashing any box office records that are laid out before it. Either way, things are looking pretty rosy for Disney this year.
