New 'Legacy' Trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road Revisits Every Film in the Series
A new international trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road is here, and it celebrates the franchise's 30-year history with characteristic craziness. It includes footage from the upcoming film, as well as 1979's Mad Max starring Mel Gibson, 1981's Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, and 1985's Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

This retrospective is a great blast from the past, but it's also a reminder that Mad Max: Fury Road is actually a sequel to the Mel Gibson films. People often call it a "reboot" because it's been so many years and the film's been recast, but it takes place in the same world and presumably the same continuity. As the trailer tells us, "all the power… all the chaos… all the madness… has led to now." And "now" is the Fury Road at the end, which reminds us that this sequel will probably be the most insane of the series.

The official description reads: "An apocalyptic story set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and almost everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life. Within this world exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order. There's Max, a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos. And Furiosa, a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland."

Mad Max: Fury Road stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult. It will come out in theaters on May 15.
