Oscar Winner John Ridley Developing Mystery Marvel Superhero Show for ABC
Marvel is apparently looking to become as much of a presence on television as DC Comics, as Oscar-winning writer-producer John Ridley is reportedly developing a superhero show for ABC. The details of the project are being kept under wraps, but there's a possibility that it could be related to another recent report that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is getting a spin-off on ABC.

The report comes from EW, who claims Ridley is creating a "mysterious" Marvel TV series that involves "reinventing an existing Marvel superhero character or property for ABC." It would make sense if it were the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off, since there has been an increased focus on the superhero elements of the series this season, with several supporting characters introduced that could fit the bill.

For whatever reason, EW seem to be assuming that this is separate from the spin-off, so it's possible that sources have told them that, but they don't give any specific justification, so it's still possible. If it is the spin-off, we have our fingers crossed for Mockingbird.

John Ridley is known for writing last year's 12 Years a Slave, which won him an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. He is also writing the upcoming Ben Hur remake, and is writing and executive producing the acclaimed television series American Crime.
