Rumored Superhero Line-Up and Plot Details for Captain America: Civil War
As fans of the comics, we were ecstatic when Marvel announced their Civil War project, even though we knew that they would need to modify the storyline quite a bit in order to make an adaptation happen. Not only does Marvel not have the rights to several characters that are significant to the comics storyline (X-Men, Spider-Man at the time), but different characters have become more or less significant in the MCU continuity than they had at the same point in the comics continuity, and it just wouldn't be feasible or make sense to include some of the original characters. But now, a new, possibly reliable report from JoBlo details exactly which Marvel heroes we can expect in Civil War, as well as which side each of them will fall on, and how the film's inciting incident plays out.

Possible spoilers ahead!

We already knew that, like in the comics, Captain America and Iron Man will be at the center of the conflict, with Tony Stark advocating for the Superhero Registration Act and Steve Rogers opposing it. According to the report, Captain America will be joined by Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Falcon, while Iron Man will be joined by Ant-Man, The Vision, and War Machine.

There will also reportedly be three non-partisan (or less partisan) heroes. As we saw at the Marvel Event, Black Panther will play a significant role in the film, and he will not be squarely on either side. The report confirms this, as JoBlo claims that Black Panther "will have his own agenda." The report also confirmed the rumors about Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man appearing in the film, but neither of them will have a clear alliance.

The two villains confirmed to appear are Baron Zemo and Crossbones. Crossbones in particular will apparently have an extremely significant role in the plot of the film, as he is effectively taking the place of the New Warriors. In the comics, a superhero group called the New Warriors accidentally destroyed several city blocks and killed hundreds of people, including 60 children, which led to the increased concern with superhero regulation. In the film, Crossbones will carry out a deliberate attack in costume that will have the same effect.

And finally, Winter Soldier will also have ambiguous loyalties in the film, but he will somehow "cause the main rift between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, as the disagreement leads them to opposing sides."

Miscellanea

-Ant-Man will take on his Giant Man form at some point in the movie
-Falcon will get a new costume, one that's closer to his comic book origins
-Crossbones wears the skull mask that covers his entire face, while his overall look in the film is described as "messier" and the skull on his suit is described as "graffiti-esque"
-JoBlo's sources describe the "main thrust" of the film as "if there is a threat - should The Avengers show up, is it their place to do so, and what gives them the authority to do so?"

Captain America: Civil War comes out in theaters on May 6, 2016.
