Marvel Narrows Down Peter Parker Shortlist to Five Actors, Hires LEGO Movie Writers for Spider-Man Animated Film
Today is a Spider-Man kind of day, as news about upcoming Marvel/Sony projects abounds. LEGO Movie writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to helm the upcoming animated film, and five young actors have reportedly made the shortlist for the newest version of Peter Parker.

According to The Wrap, the shortlist for Marvel's Peter Parker includes (but possibly is not limited to) Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game), Liam James (The Way, Way Back), Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Tom Holland (The Impossible), and Timothee Chalamet (Interstellar).

Putting aside my annoyance that they're once again going with a whitebread Peter Parker rather than a Miles Morales, or even a more diverse Peter (seriously, these are some of the whitest boys I've ever seen, who can even tell them apart?), this seems like a talented crop of actors. I'm biased towards Liam James, as I'm a fan of both The Killing and The Way, Way Back, but I'm sure any of them would do a good job.

In other news, writing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to pen the upcoming animated movie. They're best known for their work on The LEGO Movie, but they've helmed several other critically acclaimed comedies and children's movies, such as 22 Jump Street and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
