Joss Whedon Wishes He Could Have Put Batman in Avengers: Age of Ultron
Some dreams are too beautiful to come true, especially when it comes to rights issues in superhero movies. There are crazy superhero face-offs that we'd all love to see, if only to answer the timeless question: "Who would win in a fight...?" Most of them will likely never happen, but we can dream, and Joss Whedon will be dreaming along with us. When asked by MTV which DC Comics character he would want to put in Avengers: Age of Ultron (in a perfect world without rights issues), he said:

"Nobody doesn't want Batman. Everybody wants to play with Batman. Come on, that's just a given."

To be fair, Spider-Man coming to the MCU also once seemed to be in the "too good to be true category," and that's coming to fruition as we speak. But that was still a much more likely scenario, as Spider-Man is still a Marvel hero, the rights were just with Sony. Plus, at this point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Batman wouldn't even fit in tonally (but maybe he could get his own gritty TV show a la Daredevil?).

The acclaimed Marvel director also weighed in on the larger Marvel vs. DC debate, but diplomatically refrained from coming out on either side. "I get very confused when people say we're in competition," he said. "Competition for what? Their movies are so different. The way they approach them - the Marvel aesthetic and the DC aesthetic - couldn't be more opposite. I love that. I love going to their movies. I want to see how they build their team. I want to see Affleck play Batman. Now I just get to sit back and be a fan of both."

Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out on May 1.
