Neil deGrasse Tyson Answers 'Who Would Win in a Fight - Batman or Superman?' and Possibly Spoils Batman v Superman in the Process
In case you didn't realize, Neil deGrasse Tyson (most likely) did some of the voiceover work in the first trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which means he may very well appear in the film. Now, in an interview on the Daily Show, Tyson gave his expertise to the ultimate question- who would win in a fight, Batman or Superman?- and may have given us more insight into the plot of the film in the process.

When asked that character-defining question, Tyson didn't give the usual response of "I like Batman better, because he's more interesting, but come on now, Superman's invulnerable." Instead, he got a little more abstract, and said that Batman reports to the police commissioner, and ultimately the mayor, but Superman doesn't report to anyone, or at least no one who would ensure that he was part of human society, with all of its rules and restrictions.

"At the end of the day what might matter is the public reception of a superhero and a superhero's conduct. So if Batman executes our wishes in the city and Superman does what the hell he wants, that's a conflict."

This is a strange answer, and not just because Tyson is completely ignoring the heroes' respective physicalities. In general, when people think of Batman, the last thing they think of is proper regulation. Batman isn't a company man like Iron Man, or a cog in the system like Captain America. Most of the comics and movie adaptations involving Batman explore the ethics of vigilantism, of living outside or above the law. As a result, it would seem that his answer might relate to Batman v Superman, and the way the plot shakes out in the movie. From his statement, and the trailer itself, it seems that Batman will have the upper hand in the fight against Superman simply because everyone hates Superman with a fiery passion.

Technically, deGrasse Tyson hasn't confirmed that he's part of Batman v Superman, but his voice could clearly be heard in the trailer. He remained coy on Twitter, but he told International Business Times that he was "sworn to secrecy," which seems to all but confirm it.

The Batman v Superman portion of the interview starts around 3:45, but the entire interview is worth watching, because Neil deGrasse Tyson is wonderful. We love him so much, we can almost forgive that tasteless slut joke at the end. Almost. (Stop making slut jokes, world!)

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes out in theaters on March 25, 2016.
