Marvel Planning a Drax Spin-Off for Their Guardians of the Galaxy Comic Series
Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot all have their own solo comic series, and apparently, Drax was feeling a little left out. Marvel will now complete the set and release a Guardians of the Galaxy spin-off starring Drax the Destroyer, which will (strangely enough) be co-written by former professional wrestler and current Ultimate Fighter CM Punk.

Although plot details are scarce, Marvel claims that the story will take place in "the intergalactic octagon to the far reaches of outer space." The artist and writer aside from Punk are also unknown, but the first cover will be drawn by Hulk and Superman artist Ed McGuinness.

CM Punk may seem like an unlikely choice, but this isn't his first foray into comics writing, as he first joined the Marvel Universe back in 2010 when he wrote the introduction for Avengers vs X-Men. He called it a "geek dream come true," and later wrote for Thor's Annual #1.

The Legendary Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon both came out last summer to promote the release of the film, while the Groot series will come out in June and Gamora #1, written by Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman, will be released later this year. There will also be a Howard the Duck spin-off, as well as Guardians 3000, which is based on the original comics concept of the superheroes. The Drax series will come out this coming winter, sometime after the end of the Secret Wars event.
