Four new international TV spots for Mad Max: Fury Road have hit the web, and they show lots more action, chases, and explosions than we've seen in the footage thus far (if that's even possible), but they also shed a little more light on the plot and character arcs:

Some of the footage is recycled (they particularly like to use that "I don't know who was crazier, me or everyone else" line), but several scenes in these spots are brand-new. One describes Max as "a road warrior searching for a righteous cause," which he finds when he endeavors to protect the Five Wives. Charlize Theron's Furiosa tellingly says to him, "you're never going to have a better chance at redemption."

The Five Wives plotline has been somewhat mysterious, but from these spots we now know that they were under the control of the villainous (and disgusting) Immortan Joe, and Furiosa helps them to escape with the cryptic message, "Our babies will not be warlords." Joe also creepily refers to the Wives as "treasures" which makes us even more glad that they manage to escape.

And finally, there's no new information on Nicholas Hoult's character really (although you can read all about his origins in DC's upcoming prequel comics). But he does get this great line, which might be the first title shout-out we've heard: "If I'm going to die, I'm going to die historic on the Fury Road!"

The TV spots also feature plenty of cars crashing and exploding, as they all have. We haven't focused too much on the vehicles until now, but they are a huge part of the action sequences we've seen so far, and now we have images of all the different types of dystopian cars the heroes and villains will be blowing up. There are ten prototypes, but the production designer claims he made 150 of them, which makes sense considering the amount of car carnage we've seen in the trailers.

Here are the vehicles, first appearing on Car and Driver:
