Channing Tatum to Star in Adaptation of Beloved Sci-Fi Novel 'The Forever War'
Between starring in Jupiter Ascending and playing Gambit in future X-Men films, Channing Tatum is becoming a fixture in geek culture. Now, he's about to star in another highly anticipated sci-fi project, as he's just signed on to star in the adaptation of Joe Haldeman's acclaimed sci-fi novel, The Forever War.

The Forever War film has had a long and tortured development history; after waiting 25 years for the rights to the book, Ridley Scott announced that he was attached to the project back in 2008, and went through up to seven drafts of the script (currently being written by Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts) before his rights deal recently lapsed. But now, even without a new director attached, Tatum's star power might give production a little bit of a boost, as The Wrap reports that Sony and Warner Bros. have entered into a heated bidding war for the film.

The Forever War follows soldiers fighting an interstellar war between humans and an alien species called Taurans, discovered when they launched an attack on human colonists' ships. The novel won the Nebula, Hugo, and Locus awards when it was first published, and was the first in a series that included three direct and/or thematic sequels, called Forever Free, Forever Peace, and A Separate War.
