Three New Featurettes for Mad Max: Fury Road Give Spoiler-y Backstories to Nux, Furiosa, and The Wives
Three new featurettes for Mad Max: Fury Road are here, and they're more spoiler-filled than we ever would have expected. Instead of just reiterating what we already know from the trailers, George Miller and the cast go into more detail about Mad Max's dystopian, post-apocalyptic world, as well as the characters that populate it:

According to Nicholas Hoult, when we first see Nux, he's getting a blood transfusion in an attempt to cure a disease he contracted from the "toxic landscape." It's no surprise that he's sick, since it hurts me just to look at him, but it's heavily implied that he might be terminal, as he sees the road war as an "opportunity to go out in historic fashion."

In these two featurettes for Furiosa and the Wives, respectively, it's revealed that Furiosa, the "ultimate female road warrior," was "stolen as a child, taken from her mother, and she somehow ended up in the service of a tyrant." The tyrant is Immortan Joe, who apparently "hurt [Furiosa] incredibly." She is trying to save the Wives from Joe, who uses them as "breeding stock" in an effort to obtain a healthy male heir. By helping the Wives escape, Furiosa is "trying to take the most valuable thing away from him because he took the most valuable thing away from her."

This is all relatively vague, but the most specific world-building detail is that the Wives are
"healthy beings in this toxic world." They are kept completely healthy in order to ensure that their children (and any potential heirs) are healthy, but when Furiosa takes them away from Immortan Joe, they are presumably exposed to all the same toxins as Nux.

Mad Max: Fury Road, the so-called "best action movie of the year," comes out on May 15.
