UPDATED: Simon Pegg Reveals Daniel Craig's Secret Role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
It was revealed in September, to the delight of James Bond and Star Wars fans everywhere, that the most recent 007, Daniel Craig, would make a hush-hush cameo appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now, Simon Pegg has accidentally revealed the veteran actor's role, even admitting that he probably shouldn't have let it slip.

At the premiere of his romantic comedy, Man Up, Pegg told The Sun, "I wasn't a Stormtrooper. Daniel Craig, he was a Stormtrooper."

This isn't an official confirmation by any means, but you know it's probably true, since he immediately added, "I shouldn't have said that."

Craig was reportedly cast as a result of his longtime love for the franchise, and will only have a small cameo in the film. It makes perfect sense that he would be a Stormtrooper, since the original report cited an unnamed source who stated, "Fans will love trying to work out which covered up character is him." I would guess that we will ever-so-briefly see his face, however, just to make a certain subset of fans extremely happy.

UPDATE 5/15/15 5:00 pm: Clarifying his comments to Collider, Pegg said, "Why is everyone leaping on this? It was a rumour last summer, wasn't it? I read it in the paper. It may be untrue, like most of the other rumours, like Cumberbatch and Cruise being in it."

So this could just be a rumor that Pegg is repeating, or he could be trying to cover up an accidental slip. That "shouldn't have said that" still sounds pretty damning to me.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18.
