George Miller Reveals the Title of the Mad Max: Fury Road Sequel
Mad Max: Fury Road opened this weekend to great fanfare, getting a solid return at the box office and garnering amazing reviews (although not from us), so naturally everyone is already looking ahead to the inevitable sequel. Now, George Miller has revealed the title of that sequel on The Q&A podcast with Jeff Goldsmith, and it's (drumroll please)... Mad Max: The Wasteland!

Miller has previously confirmed that the scripts for the sequels are written, but now he's given more details on progress on the direct follow-up: "We've got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays [on Fury Road] and writing all the backstories, they just expanded."

A sequel seems like a no-brainer, considering the hype and the near-universal slavish devotion to the film. However, the R-rating hurt its box office return considerably, losing the top spot to Pitch Perfect 2 and only making $44 million compared to the $150 million budget. Plus, there may not be as much star power to bargain with, as Charlize Theron has said that she is reluctant to return for the franchise. Tom Hardy is attached to three more sequels, but Furiosa was the heart and soul of this film (when it decided to have one), and it would suffer without her. But that being said, it remains to be seen how much word-of-mouth will help its showings in future weeks, and even as it is, sequels have been made on less.

Mad Max: Fury Road is now out in theaters.
