Furious 7's James Wan to Direct Aquaman and Robotech
Furious 7 director James Wan will officially helm the Aquaman solo movie for Warner Bros. The up-and-comer has also signed on to Robotech, Sony's adaptation of the 1985 anime TV series about transformable mecha that fight alien invasions.

Aquaman will be portrayed by Jason Momoa, and will first appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before starring in his own vehicle and then teaming up with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more in Justice League.

According to THR, the solo film "will focus on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface."

Wan is fresh off of the (frankly, surprising) success of Furious 7, which had a troubled production following the death of star Paul Walker, but was still a box office hit and received shockingly great reviews for the seventh installment of an already silly franchise. Wan is also known for directing the first (and best) Saw movie, as well as helming the critically acclaimed horror franchises Insidious and The Conjuring.

Wan is set to direct the sequel to The Conjuring, subtitled The Enfield Poltergeist, which shoots this fall and will likely prevent Aquaman's production from beginning until spring of 2016.

There's no word on a production or release date for Robotech, but Aquaman is slated for release sometime in 2018.
