James Cameron says Terminator: Genisys Has Reinvigorated the Terminator Franchise
James Cameron has spoken out about the latest entry into the Terminator franchise, revealing in detail his reactions to seeing the Terminator: Genisys story unfold before his very eyes. But before we get into that, we also have three new TV spots for the movie, and they feature T-1000 liquid metal hijinks, apocalyptic explosions, and a shot of an older, grizzled Arnie punching that classic Terminator Arnie right in the face:

These teasers have some cool footage, but mostly they made me laugh because they could be interpreted as extremely meta. Between the new film literally punching the original film in the face, to Jai Courtney's "It's a Terminator! What's confusing to you?" (Everything, Jai Courtney, everything about this movie is confusing).

James Cameron's comments come in a new featurette, in which he discusses consulting on the film and the fact that it basically ignores T3 and Terminator: Salvation, serving as a spiritual sequel to T2: Judgment Day:

I'm more excited for this movie than most, mostly as a result of Emilia Clarke's Sarah Connor and the apparent empowerment of her character. But it's a little difficult to imagine the film being a huge success, between the stupid title, the retconning of the entire timeline, and the big "evil John Connor" plot twist leaking months early. Paramount tried to save face by making the twist part of their marketing campaign, but it only leaked because audiences at test screenings didn't honor their confidentiality agreement, which makes us think the primary twist of the film has actually been spoiled. Genisys will likely do fine at the box office as a result of the built-in fanbase, but whether fans will actually like it is a different story.

After finding himself in a new time-line, Kyle Reese teams up with John Connor's mother Sarah and an aging terminator to try and stop the one thing that the future fears, "Judgement Day".

Terminator: Genisys hits theaters on July 1, while the theatrical re-release of the original Terminator begins on June 14.
