The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal to Play The Punisher in Daredevil Season 2
After playing a brutally consequentialist murderer on The Walking Dead, Jon Bernthal is joining Daredevil's second season to play- another brutally consequentialist murderer. Marvel just announced that The Walking Dead and Fury actor will play Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, on the second season of Marvel/Netflix's Daredevil.

"Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences," said Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television. "Castle's appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same."

We could not be happier about this news. Not only is the Punisher a perfect fit for Daredevil's grittier aesthetic and tone, he's also a fascinating superhero in his own right, one that would bring more desperately needed moral ambiguity to the Marvel cinematic universe. And Jon Bernthal is, in fact, a wonderfully intense actor who should be perfect for the role. Just imagine Shane with a little more self-possession and even fewer moral qualms.

Even more excitingly, it was recently rumored that Punisher will get his own show in Marvel/Netflix's Phase 2, and this news makes that rumor much more likely to be true. And, in turn, if that rumor is confirmed, then it's more likely that Ghost Rider and Blade will get their own shows as well. I'd be less excited for Ghost Rider, but Marvel/Netflix has proven adept at adapting previously derided superheroes thus far, so why not.

The second season of Marvel's Daredevil is set to start streaming on Netflix sometime in 2016.
