Sony and Paramount Join Marvel in Opting Out of San Diego Comic Con 2015
Don't expect to see Star Trek or Spectre in Hall H this year, as Sony and Paramount are both taking a cue from Marvel and skipping San Diego Comic Con 2015.

All three studios claim that they simply don't have enough geeky films coming up to make the investment worth it: "It wasn't a knock against Comic-Con," one spokesperson told Variey, "the film cycles just didn't allow it."

This is likely just an excuse for Marvel, who always has new films coming out, but with Marvel programming scheduled for Disney's D23 in August and New York Comic Con scheduled much closer to the release of Captain America: Civil War, it's not hard to see why Marvel studios will be a no show. But Comic Con can get expensive for studios, so it actually does make sense that Sony and Paramount would opt out. Now that Sony's Spider-Man films are being handled by Marvel, they could only promote Pixels, Goosebumps, and/or Spectre. The latter is the most famous name, and it's also the most tangentially related to Comic Con, although that didn't stop them from promoting Skyfall at the 2012 event.

Paramount has even less to work with, especially since Terminator: Genisys comes out right before Comic Con, on July 1. After Comic Con, Paramount only has Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension coming out, with the next truly geeky film, Star Trek 3, not making an appearance until July 2016.

Hall H will still have no shortage of attractions, however, as Warner Bros. and Star Wars will both be making an appearance. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has already released teaser trailers, but fans are hoping to see the first full trailers from both highly anticipated blockbusters.

San Diego Comic Con takes place on July 9-12. See you there!
