Live Rats, Bullets and Dead Pigs: Jared Leto's Gifts to the Suicide Squad Cast Revealed
Jared Leto is known to have embraced method acting techniques for some of his roles in the past, which begs the question, how much is the actor embracing his turn as the Joker in Warner Bros.' upcoming Suicide Squad movie? Well, according to one of his fellow cast members, he's gone all-in on his portrayal of the Crown Prince of Crime, giving members of the Suicide Squad team special gifts that only a mind as twisted as the Joker would think to give.

Here's what Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot in Suicide had to say about Leto's bizarre acts of...kindness?

Opening quote
"He sent [Margot Robbie] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it-a live rat. It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter."
Closing quote

Beach was speaking with E! News at the premiere of Joe Dirt 2, and he went on to add that Leto's bizarre behaviour didn't end with live rats and bullets. Beach said that in addition to the gifts received by Suicide Squad's Margot Robbie and Will Smith, the cast as a whole was gifted a dead hog, which was accompanied by a special video message from Leto dressed in full Joker garb.

It all seems a bit much, but knowing how Leto loves to sink himself into a role, these oddities aren't particularly surprising. But as Beach reveals, these gifts might not have been purely for the purpose of Leto's character immersion, and instead may well have helped the other members of the Suicide Squad cast get to grips with the idea of sharing the screen with DC Comics' most infamous villain.

"Basically, what he said was, 'Guys, I can't be there but I want you to know I'm doing my work as hard as you guys,'" Beach said. "The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real."

While Leto's actions may worry his family (and animal rights activists), they will likely reassure any DC fan who doubted the actor was giving this movie his all.

Suicide Squad is released in theaters on August 5th 2016.
