Jon Bernthal Reveals Which Punisher Comics He's Reading for Daredevil Season 2
If we weren't already excited for Daredevil season two, Jon Bernthal taking on Frank Castle more than sealed the deal. And now, it looks like we have even more reason to be excited, as Bernthal is meticulously researching the character and reading some of the classic Punisher comics. The Walking Dead actor revealed one of his method acting props via Twitter:

In the first picture, Bernthal is holding "Punisher: War Zone-The Resurrection of Ma Gnucci," a classic Punisher arc written by comics legend Garth Ennis. Although it shares the name, the comic doesn't share much resemblance with Lexi Alexander's Punisher: War Zone, but rather follows Frank Castle as he attempts to take down the Gnucci mob family.

In the second photo, he's buying a few more Punisher comics, including "Max" and "Circle of Blood." Although we have no idea if any of these comics will give insight into the plot of Daredevil season two, it seems more likely that either of these comic arcs could come to the screen, as they both involve Daredevil villains. "Max" sees Frank Castle go up against Kingpin, Bullseye, and Elektra. Kingpin was played by Vincent D'Onofrio in season one, while Bullseye and Elektra have both been rumored for season two.

"Circle of Blood" would be really interesting to explore in Daredevil, as it involves a sinister organization that brainwashes criminals and makes them part of their "Punishment Squad," which wears similar uniforms to the Punisher and kills criminals. It's unlikely that this part will be included unless he lasts more than one season, as it would be a lot to take on, but Wilson Fisk plays an interesting role in the comic that may reflect Punisher's incorporation into the plot of Daredevil.

As the news just broke that Daredevil's showrunner refers to the second season as "Daredevil vs. Punisher," it's more likely that the second season is loosely based on Daredevil vs. Punisher: Means and Ends. This also makes more sense with the timeline of the show, because Means and Ends takes place after Fisk has gone to jail. But even if he's just reading these comics for character inspiration, it's good news that he's taking the role seriously. He recently told CBS News,

"I'm extremely honored and grateful, and I know the character has a ton of fans out there. I give every single one of them my word that I'm going to give it my all."

Marvel/Netflix's Daredevil season two is set for release sometime in 2016.
