Revisiting Roswell and the Most Famous UFO Conspiracy Story of All Time
As the 68th anniversary of the world-famous Roswell UFO incident approaches, it's remarkable how the passing of countless decades has done nothing to shed light on one of America's greatest mysteries. Two years ago, the Outer Places team had the honor of accompanying Jesse Marcel Jr. (the son of Jesse Marcel, the first military man to witness the Roswell crash site) and researcher Frank Kimbler to the Roswell UFO crash site to retrace some of the steps that make the Roswell Incident a true mystery for the ages.

In our short documentary, 'Revisiting Roswell', we learn how Jesse Marcel Jr. got up close with materials from the crash site at the age of just 11 years old. We also hear about Frank Kimbler's quest to get his multiple crash site samples analyzed in the hope that, once and for all, we can understand just what crashed there on that day in 1947.

Jesse Marcel Jr. was the last living person known to have come into contact with the Roswell debris back in 1947, but in late August 2013, just a matter of weeks after this historic return to his childhood home, he passed away aged 76.  Of all of those who had commented on the Roswell incident over the years, many saw Marcel Jr. as one of the most reasonable, realistic and credible voices.

Opening quote
His legacy is that he had the courage to speak out when he didn't have to about handling wreckage that his Dad brought home," said UFO researcher Stanton Friedman shortly after Marcel Jr's passing . "He worked with artists to come up with what the symbols on the wreckage looked like. He didn't have to do that. He could have kept his mouth shut. A lot of people did."

As a Major with the US Air Force based in Roswell New Mexico, Jesse Marcel Sr. was among the first to set foot on the crash site after local man Mac Brazel discovered the wreckage. As the following quote (from 35 years ago) shows, Marcel Sr. was completely perplexed by what he found waiting for him deep in the New Mexican desert.

Opening quote
We went out to the scene of where the crash was and started picking up the debris. It's almost indescribable. It's not the kind of material I'd ever seen in my life, nor have I seen it since. There were various types of materials which I couldn't identify.

68 years on, people like Frank Kimbler are still searching for answers, but with a lack of first hand witnesses available, it would seem that now more than ever, hopes of finding those answers are slipping away. And, while the years have revealed many details about the convoluted sequence of events that unfolded in Roswell in July of 1947, there are still many questions left unanswered.

Outer Places Co-Founder, Michael Donovan joined Lee Speigel and Huffington Post's Weird News team this week to discuss some of these unanswered questions, and further dig into this fascinating mystery. Listen to the podcast below, and visit Huffington Post for more details.
