Watch the New Extended Heroes Reborn Trailer from San Diego Comic Con!
The Heroes: Reborn panel was much more exciting than we anticipated, as it featured a preview of upcoming video games, the full first episode of the digital prequel, "Dark Matters," a Q&A with the cast, a surprise visit from fan favorite Masi Oka, and the unveiling of a new extended trailer. We have the latter right here, and check out our Comic Con live blog for a breakdown of the rest of the footage.

And here's the new full-length synopsis from NBC:

Opening quote
A year ago, a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas, left the city decimated. Blamed for the tragic event, those with extraordinary abilities are in hiding or on the run from those with nefarious motives.

Two such vigilantes include Luke (Zachary Levi, Chuck) and Joanne (Judith Shekoni, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2), who are seeking to avenge a tragic loss.

Noah Bennet, aka HRG (Jack Coleman, reprising his role from the original), has gone off the grid but conspiracy theorist Quentin Frady (Henry Zebrowski, A to Z) finds him and opens his eyes to the truth behind the Odessa tragedy.

While in hiding, some are discovering their newfound skills. Awkward teen Tommy (Robbie Kay, Once Upon a Time) just wants to be normal and win the girl of his dreams, Emily (Gatlin Green, Criminal Minds), but normalcy is virtually impossible after learning of a new ability that terrifies him. Coming from a very sheltered upbringing, a bold and ethereal teenager, Malina (Danika Yarosh, Shameless), has been told she is destined for greatness. In Tokyo, a quiet and unique young woman, Miko (Kiki Sukezane, Death Yankee 3), is trying to track down her missing father while hiding an extraordinary secret that will make her a force to be reckoned with.

Elsewhere, a different type of hero is emerging through former soldier Carlos (Ryan Guzman, The Boy Next Door).

Meanwhile, Erica (Rya Kihlstedt, Masters of Sex), the head of the highly successful tech conglomerate Renautas, has an agenda of her own.

For better or for worse, some are fated to cross paths with assorted heroes of the past, including Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) and the Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis), among others. Yet, together, their ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the world and mankind.
Closing quote

Between the trailer and the synopsis, we can infer that Mohinder was somehow behind the "Evo" (evolved human) terrorist attack in Odessa, and we know from previous interviews that Zachary Levi's character lost a loved one in the attack. It also seems that Levi's character will be a villain, as he was using language that sounds suspiciously like a prejudice that will draw parallels to real-life bigotry, especially when he says "I know you can't help who/what you are."

We also know from the Hall H panel that the sword fight between Hiro and a mystery antagonist was over a captured Mohinder, and that Hiro ultimately cuts off the man's arms, only to find that he has the ability to regenerate from severed body parts, like an earthworm.

It also seems that the black hole-type celestial event shown in the Super Bowl preview will have a huge impact on the mythology of the show. I would guess that's what they're talking about when they say, "It's coming. And when it does, everything will change." It's possible that the line, "everyone has the potential to be a hero" will come to fruition once the black hole swallows everything, but that's just conjecture at this point.
