The Lone Gunmen to Return for the X-Files Revival Series
Fan favorite conspiracy theorists The Lone Gunmen will return to the mother ship, as Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood will all reprise their roles on the upcoming X-Files miniseries.

On The X-Files, The Lone Gunmen were "counterculture patriots" who never met a conspiracy theory they didn't like, which made them perfect comedic sidekicks for Fox Mulder. They only sporadically appeared on The X-Files, but they were adored enough that they garnered their own following and starred in their own short-lived spin-off series. It was a critical hit, but couldn't attract enough viewers, and was canceled after only one season. Ironically, the show has become notable among conspiracy theorists for an episode about the Gunmen uncovering a conspiracy to hijack an airliner and crash into the World Trade Center, which aired months before the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Dean Haglund, who plays Richard Langly, first confirmed the news this morning via Twitter:

Fans of the show will be overjoyed, but they will also know that the Lone Gunmen tragically died right before the X-Files series finale, so it's unclear whether the characters will actually return or just appear in flashbacks. However, the characters were revealed to have faked their own deaths in the canonical comic season ten, so it's very possible that the characters will still be alive in the revival series.

The Lone Gunmen will be joined by fellow returning supporting characters AD Skinner, The Smoking Man, John Doggett, and Monica Reyes, as well as notable guest stars Robbie Amell (The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow), Annet Mahendru (The Americans), Joel McHale (Community), and Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley star and adorable X-Files superfan).

The X-Files revival will be a six-episode miniseries starring Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, reprising their roles as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder. The series premieres on January 24, 2016 on Fox.
