Jurassic World Sequel Gets a 2018 Release Date, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard to Return
In the least surprising news of the century, Jurassic World is getting a sequel. After beating The Avengers at the box office to become the third highest-grossing movie of all time, Universal has already scheduled a follow-up to come out in theaters on June 22, 2018.

Stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are both set to return, and Steven Spielberg will once again produce. However, Colin Trevorrow will not return to direct, as he claims that he would like to diversify his resume. He told Indiewire last month,

Opening quote
"It's a decision that we made early on in the process, because Steven was aware of how important it was to me to have a body of work and to exist in different worlds and to make different kinds of films. That's a privilege that he's had over the course of his career. I didn't want to lose that privilege and just become the 'Jurassic Park' guy for an entire decade. Also, I poured everything I had into this. I laid it all out and you put a piece of your soul into these movies. I gave this one a lot."
Closing quote

Jurassic World is still out in theaters, having made $1.522 billion at the global box office and still climbing, although it's unlikely to overtake Titanic, the second highest-grossing film ever, at $2.186 billion. It's also been an unexpected critical success, especially for an action sequel, garnering a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
