Details from Star Wars: The Force Awakens IMAX Presentation Revealed
J.J. Abrams recently confirmed that one sequence from Star Wars: The Force Awakens would be filmed in IMAX, even tweeting out a picture from the Abu Dhabi set, which is known to be the stand-in for the Tatooine-like desert planet, Jakku:

Now, Making Star Wars claims to have the details about this sequence, which was shot on a 70mm IMAX camera. According to the newest report, "the scene is most likely the escape from Jakku." We've seen glimpses of this scene in the trailers, in which the Millennium Falcon is attacked by TIE fighters. Making Star Wars published a few comparison shots from the trailers, first in widescreen and then in IMAX, and the IMAX version is stunning, especially the shots that show the Millennium Falcon in its entirety:

Apparently, the sequence will not show in IMAX format at theaters that have the "gimmick" shrunk IMAX screens, but "the theaters that house a 'true' eight story tall IMAX screen will present the film in actual 70MM film reel; presenting the 70MM shot scenes in its full screen glory."

Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out in theaters on December 18.
