Mark Watney Is Skeptical of Aquaman's Powers in New Featurette for The Martian
In the new featurette for Ridley Scott's The Martian, the crew members of Ares 3 report to a psychologist on their experiences while in ten days of isolation (which is nothing compared to the years the protagonist spends alone on Mars). Mark Watney, who, according to Kate Mara's character is "everyone's favorite," got to some of life's most important questions while in isolation, including the dubious nature of Aquaman's powers:

Opening quote
"I feel like I got to some of the more important questions... How come Aquaman can control whales? I mean, whales are mammals. It doesn't even make sense... I mean I understand that kids may not know that a whale is a mammal, and if Aquaman needs a big fish, going to be asking why he didn't call a whale, and you're not going to explain that whales are mammals because the kid doesn't know that a whale is a f*cking mammal."
Closing quote

As far as I can tell, some versions of Aquaman give him the power of communicating with marine life, not fish. But Aquaman is a pretty stupid superhero anyway, so we'll give him this one.

The video also features Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, and Sebastian Stan as the other crew members. Pena is coming off of a breakthrough performance in Ant-Man, and can likely be relied upon for some comic relief, while the always-wonderful Chastain already looks like she's going to turn in another pitch-perfect performance.

The official synopsis for The Martian reads:

Opening quote
"During a human mission to Mars, astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after being caught in a fierce storm, and is left behind when the rest of the crew evacuate the planet and begin to head back to Earth. Watney finds himself stranded and alone, with only meager supplies and his ingenuity, wit, and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal home, despite knowing that even if his survival is made known there is no realistic prospect for a rescue."
