Honestly, I wouldn't be completely shocked if Fantastic Four turned out to be decent and/or good. Josh Trank is a talented director, and all four young actors are pedigreed up the wazoo, with Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan both getting Oscar buzz for leading turns in small indies within the last two years.
To be fair, studios often selectively choose people who are all but guaranteed to have a positive reaction for these screenings; Avengers: Age of Ultron, for example, got rave reviews in early screenings, and then tepid ones when it came out in theaters. But considering how much flack this movie has already gotten, the fact that we couldn't find a single negative reaction is encouraging.
I take that back, there was one bizarrely impassioned Twitter rant that absolutely eviscerated the movie, but it was clearly a joke, especially when you get to the part about 9/11:
"the disrespect for fantastic four fans is disgusting"— hemmed jeans devil (@death_of_speedy) August 4, 2015
the fantastic four... are heroes. as an american, as a human, i was compelled to vomit on my lap there in the free screening. heroes.— hemmed jeans devil (@death_of_speedy) August 4, 2015
i sat w puke all down the front of my doctor who shirt for the remaining 110 minutes of the disrespectful fantastic four, i was so disgusted— hemmed jeans devil (@death_of_speedy) August 4, 2015
never have i been so disgusted, so outraged. never have i had my heart so broken, as by this wretched fantastic four film.— hemmed jeans devil (@death_of_speedy) August 4, 2015
that stuck up little whore of a film, fantastic four. look at it. just look. disgusting.— hemmed jeans devil (@death_of_speedy) August 4, 2015
how quickly we forget... in the days after 9-11 you never would've seen such disrespect for the fantastic four. but now, everything's filth— hemmed jeans devil (@death_of_speedy) August 4, 2015
(At least, I hope it's a joke. 99% sure.)
Fantastic Four hits theaters this Friday.
