Patrick Stewart Confirms Professor X for Wolverine 3
We're not too excited about the prospect of yet another Wolverine movie, but having Professor X along for the ride would make it a little more interesting. Patrick Stewart recently confirmed that he will not only make a cameo appearance in the film, but will play a significant role in the plot, and even intimated that those Old Man Logan rumors might be true.

When asked by Collider if the rumors of Old Man Logan and a Professor X appearance were true, Stewart reportedly responded to both by saying,

Opening quote
"I think what you say is true. There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me."
Closing quote

Stewart said of the Old Man Logan rumors specifically:

Opening quote
"And the idea of an old Wolverine – I'm really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I'm hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he'll make me look better if that's the case."
Closing quote

To be fair, he probably has more knowledge about his own involvement than about the storyline itself. But, Old Man Logan is one of the most iconic Wolverine stories of all time, and really would only make sense as a send-off for the character, as Hugh Jackman has repeatedly stated that this will be his last time donning the claws.

But if Fox did adapt the Old Man Logan storyline, there would be several roadblocks in their way, as they don't have the rights to some of the most important characters. In the Mark Millar series, Logan is older, grizzled, and settled down, living a quiet life with his family. They're in hiding, as the world has been taken over and divided between Marvel supervillains, until Logan is recruited for a job that ends disastrously. Hawkeye is the one who recruits him, and the final confrontation is between Logan and The Hulk (who ultimately eats Logan, no big deal), as well as Hulk's incestuous hillbilly grandchildren, but both characters are currently with Marvel. Professor X probably can't fulfill The Hulk's function, but we can easily see him replacing Hawkeye and coaxing Logan out of retirement.

Wolverine 3 hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
