New Trailer for The Martian Features Glorious Shots of Mars and Space, Best Soundtrack Ever
Stunning shots of Mars and Space set to Jimi Hendrix's 'All Along the Watchtower'? That's what makes up the bulk of the second official trailer for Ridley Scott's The Martian, and it's every bit as good as it sounds.

The new trailer features a ton of new footage and improves on its predecessor in many ways, expanding on the things that make the story so enthralling while not giving away too much more on key plot points. We get to see more on the challenges of surviving on the barren surface of Mars coupled with Mark Watney's trademark wit, both of which look like they are going to be delivered perfectly.

The shots of Mars and the Ares 3 spacecraft have added a refreshing dose of color and depth to what we've seen from the movie so far, but it's the drama that unfolds within the trailer that is truly exciting.

Showing thousands of people packing into New York City's Times Square helps to portray the sense of global fascination that is so present in Andy Weir's book. Similarly Matt Damon really seems to have captured what makes Mark Watney such a great protagonist in the book. Watney, while incredibly smart is, at heart, an everyman who finds himself torn between panicking over his desperate situation and marvelling at the fact that he is the only human being on the entire planet. If you liked the witty one-liners like "I am the greatest botanist on this planet", there's probably going to be a lot to keep you entertained in this movie.

The Martian is released on October 2nd. Read the full plot synopsis below.

Opening quote
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring "the Martian" home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return.
