Force Friday - Your Guide to the Biggest Day in Star Wars Merchandising History
For many Star Wars fans, December 18th is the only date that matters this year, but before The Force Awakens is unleashed upon the box office, there is another massive day on the Star Wars calendar. Friday September 4th has now been dubbed 'Force Friday', because that's the day when hundreds of new Star Wars merchandise lines are made available by retailers across the globe. From Lego sets to new Lightsaber toys, stores will be expecting to shift millions of dollars worth of Star Wars merchandise in their first few days of release, with certain hot properties likely to sell out within the first day or two. So, what can you expect from this most epic of wallet-emptying days?

Where Can I Buy Stuff

Just about every major retailer going will be selling new lines of Star Wars merchandise. In the US the likes of Target, Walmart and Toys R Us will be among the busiest locations, but even your local independent retailers will have access to merchandise.

Many of these retailers will be opening at 12:01am on the Friday, and while the scenes may not be as chaotic as a typical Black Friday, you can probably expect a healthy number of Star Wars fans in costumes queuing up to ensure they get their first choice merchandise.

If you don't want to join the masses at 12:01 am, then we suggest you head to DisneyStore.com so you can browse and purchase from the comfort of your own home.

What Will Be Available?

So much. This is going to be one of the biggest single merchandise pushes of all time, and that's exactly the way the retailers and Disney planned it. New Star Wars toys will naturally be some of the biggest draws; the likes of Lego and Hasbro will both be going big with big lines and we're pretty excited about these Itty Bittys by Mattel.

But merchandise will stretch well beyond the normal toys. Clothing will also be big and, as we revealed the other week, there's even Star Wars Makeup from Covergirl being released.

Can I See What's Available in Advance?

You're not supposed to be able to, no, but when you're dealing with so many retailers, things will inevitably find their way online. In recent weeks there have been countless leaked images of everything from Lego to new Star Wars Funko Pop figures. Below are just a few of the leaks that have come out recently.

But arguably the biggest Force Friday leak conceivable happened just last night when Hasbro's entire Force Friday catalogue hit the internet. Seen below, is just about every single new Star Wars: The Force Awakens line Hasbro is bringing to the fray. Some of it was tease at San Diego Comic Con, like the abominable Bladebuilders Lightsabers, while some of it has been, until now at least, a closely guarded secret.

Hasbro Force Friday Catalog

While there are some exciting items in the catalogue (Micro Machines FTW!), it's some of the accompanying images that are most enlightening. For example, there's a page featuring Star Wars Rebels figures that has an image of Ahsoka Tano in a lightsaber duel with her old Jedi Master, Darth Vader. Rebels fans have been asking whether or not this will happen ever since Ahsoka was revealed at the end of last season, now it would seem we finally have an answer.

What Should We Be Excited For

Well, that's obviously a matter of opinion, but there a few things that we are particularly looking forward to. The first of which isn't actually a toy at all:

Star Wars: Aftermath

Aftermath is one of the first major pieces of the puzzle that has been labelled 'Journey to the Force Awakens'. Written by Chuck Wendig, Aftermath will explore the state of the galaxy in the immediate wake of Palpatine's death. After watching Return of the Jedi, you would be forgiven for thinking that with Palpatine dead, the Empire would crumble, but Aftermath will show us that even without its figurehead, the ideology of the Empire lives on. Aftermath will likely contain a number of links and clues to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and should therefore be considered a must-read for any Star Wars fan.

Black Series
Hasbro's Black Series has become the new darling of Star Wars collectors. What started with 6 inch figures has become something of an obsession for some, and that obsession is about to deepen, because on September 4th Hasbro will unleash its Star Wars Black Series Titanium Series. The Titanium series will focus on the vehicles that have made Star Wars great. From Rebel X-Wings and Y-Wings to Rey's speeder from The Force Awakens, we're going to be knocking doors down to get our hands on these figures.

Lego Sets
Lego have been pushing out great Star Wars sets for years now, and we're expecting the new generation to be no different. Rumor has it that there will be an incredible new Millennium Falcon set and Poe Dameron's Black X-Wing and Rey's Speeder will both get large format kits as well. But if that's not enough, check out the leaked images of the new Star Wars Lego Minifigs.
