Patrick Stewart on Returning as Captain Picard: 'It's Possible'
Sir Patrick Stewart recently reprised his long-running role as Charles Xavier in the X-Men series, but could he ever do the same with his other classic sci-fi role of Captain Picard in Star Trek? According to Stewart himself, it's not impossible, although also not likely.

Opening quote
"It's possible," Stewart told IGN when asked if we'll ever see Captain Picard again. "I think it's unlikely. But it's possible. The series wrapped over 25 years ago and we've got a rather elderly Captain Picard now. So I don't know. It would be… it could be entertaining."
Closing quote

It would definitely be tricky to incorporate Stewart into the rebooted films, as Chris Pine's Captain Kirk is meant to be approximately the same age. Most likely, if Stewart were to appear in the Star Trek films, it would be in a fun little cameo, like the one by the late and great Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek: Into Darkness.

But then again, never say never, as these reboots mess around with the continuity all the time. X-Men: Days of Future Past managed to incorporate Stewart's classic version of the character, even as James McAvoy played a younger version. And after the disastrous timeline tinkering in Terminator: Genisys, fans would probably forgive a lot to see Jean-Luc again.

Plus, there could also be a revival of the television series itself. Picard appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ran for seven seasons ending in 1994. That was over three decades ago, but between The X-Files, Twin Peaks, and Xena: Warrior Princess, people really like their 90's reboots lately.

Stewart seemed semi-pessimistic about the idea, but not hopeless. When asked if there was a possibility of teaming up with friend and self-proclaimed Trekkie Seth MacFarlane on a new Star Trek project, Stewart only said, "Well, Seth is a huge Star Trek fan." So keep your fingers crossed.
