Guillermo Del Toro 'Would Love the F*ck' Out of a Godzilla/Pacific Rim Crossover
Both Pacific Rim and the Godzilla reboot currently have sequels in development, but what if the sequels combined into one giant monster? Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro said in a recent interview that he would "love the f*ck" out of a crossover between the two franchises.

There has been a recent rash of rumors regarding a Pacific Rim/Godzilla crossover recently, and it's technically possible, as they're both Legendary properties, but it was unclear whether it was based on anything concrete, or whether it's wishful thinking. For his part, when asked about the possibility of a crossover in a recent interview with Moviepilot, Del Toro responded:

Opening quote
"So far with the sequel, what we're writing, what we're creating, is very different, so there are no plans. Hypothetically, I would love the fuck out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain."
Closing quote

From his statements, it sounds like a crossover is not a possibility for Pacific Rim 2, which makes sense, as a sequel to the 2014 Godzilla remake is already in development. But the rumors mostly alluded to a possible crossover after both planned sequels come out, which may be more likely if Del Toro is on board.

But aside from the fact that it would be "too much for the human brain," there are a few practical obstacles on the way to a Batman v Superman-esque confrontation between Godzilla and the Jaegers. If Gareth Edwards's Godzilla is the new canon for the franchise, then the two films take place in entirely different timelines. There could likely be some sci-fi finagling that would allow it to happen, most likely involving the portal through which the kaiju come to Earth, but it would be a little tricky.

Pacific Rim 2, which is currently titled Maelstrom, is set to be released on August 4, 2017, while the Godzilla sequel is slated for a June 2018 release.
