Simon Kinberg Admits He's Thinking About a Deadpool, Gambit and X-Men Crossover
You know what's hot right now? Cinematic Universes. Thanks to Marvel's mind-boggling success at creating a unified cinematic continuum, every studio is thinking about how their properties could exist within a similar mode of storytelling. In the past, X-Men Writer/Producer Simon Kinberg has been coy on the prospect of Fox doing something similar with their properties, but at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, he admitted that he's already started thinking about how Fox crossover events could happen.

Kinberg reveals that thanks to the time-travelling shenanigans of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the franchise possibilities have opened up considerably, which is rather fortuitous considering a certain merc with a mouth and a man named LeBeau are about to get their own movies.

Opening quote
The idea is that we've sort of reset the timeline after 'Days of Future Past' in some ways, and if not erased, certainly allowed for change from 'X1,' '2,' '3,' everything from 'Days of Future Past' forward, 1973, everything we set now becomes canon…So the 'Gambit' movie, the 'Deadpool' movie, will exist in a world that acknowledges whatever happened in 'Days of Future Past' and moving forward. Doesn't mean they'll always interact with those characters, obviously, it's not like every movie has all the characters, but they all have to exist within the same rules…There will be interplay between different characters in different movies.

But simply saying that such 'interplay' is possible doesn't necessarily mean that it will actually happen. It's no small feat to develop a unified cinematic universe, just ask the folks over at Marvel who have to map out the interactions between their future movies years in advance. Despite this, Kinberg actually revealed that he's not only open to the idea of how an X-Men cinematic universe, but he's also actively mapping it out.

Opening quote
I don't have it up on a wall, but I have it on my computer, and I have it sort of tattooed on my brain now too…Nothing external, so that if I get knocked over the head, no one can read it. It's literally behind my eyelids. But yeah, we have a clear sense of the directions we want to take them in and in my my mind at least, how we could start to cross-pollinate sort of with those characters that have their standalone movies.
Closing quote

Seems like we're well on our way to seeing some serious Fox cross-pollination.

2016 is a big year for Fox's Marvel properties with Deadpool released in February, X-Men: Apocalypse hitting theaters in May followed by Gambit's October release. Maybe once the dust settles from those we'll start to see some of Kinberg's planning come to fruition?
