First Star Wars: The Force Awakens Screenings Scheduled for the Day Before Wide Release
We still don't know when Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets go on sale (but we assume that when they do, it will actually break the internet), but now we are privy to the time and date of the first U.S. screenings. Esquire IMAX theater has confirmed that their first showing of Episode VII will not be on the wide release date, December 18, but the night before at 7pm.

Technically, this is only confirmation from one theater, but it's difficult to imagine that there won't be others. It is worth noting, however, that it's an IMAX theater, so it's possible that only IMAX theaters will be showing the film a day early, in order to encourage fans to buy the more expensive tickets. But let's be real, you were probably going to buy the IMAX tickets anyway, right?

The movie only has one sequence in IMAX, but it makes a huge difference, as can be seen in the comparison shots below:

The sequence is reportedly the escape from Jakku, and has been seen briefly in the trailers. And because of this one sequence, The Force Awakens will kick every other movie out of IMAX and play on every screen in North America. Sometimes, it's good to be Star Wars.
