Guillermo del Toro Insists Pacific Rim 2 is Still Happening, Just Later Than Scheduled
On Wednesday we received the crushing news that Pacific Rim 2 was being put on indefinite hold, putting an end to our hopes of seeing more giant robots battling giant monsters, at least for a good few years. But it turns out that those reports by THR may have been a bit over-amped, because the man who is actually making the movie, Guillermo del Toro, still insists that a Pacific Rim sequel will happen, even if it is delayed slightly.

Opening quote
"We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks," del Toro told EW. "As far as I'm concerned, it's not gone. We're still on it. It moved further. I may do another movie in the middle."
Closing quote

Legendary were expected to release the monster sequel in August of 2017, and while Guillermo seems to have accepted that the movie may have been pushed back, the comments that it will never happen aren't sitting well with the director. del Toro has plenty of other projects simmering away, and this delay could potentially see his Hellboy 3 project bumped up the production queue, which I'm sure you'll all agree, would be a pretty hefty silver lining to this particular cloud. In fact, del Toro said that if he had the money, he'd ensure that all of his projects would find their way into production....it might just ruin him financially in the process.

Opening quote
I can tell you this, if I was a billionaire, I would definitely do Hellboy 3, Pacific Rim 2, and At the Mountains of Madness. And I would quickly become a millionaire.
Closing quote

Someone give that man a billion dollars...now!
