Star Trek Beyond Release Date Has Been Pushed Back Two Weeks
Star Trek Beyond just got a little less patriotic. Originally scheduled to come out on Fourth of July weekend, it has now moved to a July 22 release date, presumably to take advantage of more IMAX screenings.

On its original release date of July 6, the third installment of the rebooted Star Trek series would have come out right after Warner Bros's live-action adaptation of Tarzan, starring Margot Robbie and Alexander Skarsgard, which will likely take over the IMAX screens. By moving the film by two weeks, Star Trek Beyond is now competing with Ice Age: Collision Course and King Arthur, starring Charlie Hunnam. Now, King Arthur may move its July 22 release date in order to avoid competition for IMAX screens, thus completing the circle of life.

Star Trek Beyond will be directed by Fast and Furious's Justin Lin and written by co-star Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. In addition to Pegg, the film will include returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, John Cho, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin. The film's main antagonist will be played by Idris Elba, while Kingman's Sofia Boutella joins the cast as a member of a new alien species

Boutella's strange-looking alien can be seen in the first set footage below:
