Kevin Feige Tells Zachary Levi He Can Play More Than One Character in the MCU
Will we get to see Zachary Levi play another role in the MCU? The Heroes Reborn star, who played Fandral in Thor: The Dark World, recently claimed that Marvel president Kevin Feige brushed off concerns that playing Fandral precluded Levi from playing another role in the Marvel universe.

Speaking with Den of Geek, Levi said that he didn't know whether he would reprise his role in Thor: Ragnarok:

Opening quote
"I have no idea. They have not told me anything. I hope so. I think that'd be pretty fun to get the gang back together, the Warriors Three. But there's a reason why the movie's called Thor and not The Warriors Three. They've got to do what's right for Thor... It'd be a lot of fun but there's also a lot of other Marvel roles that I'd love to play one day."

It's not completely without precedent for an actor to play more than one Marvel superhero, as Chris Evans famously played The Human Torch in Fantastic Four before going on to play Captain America, and Ray Stevenson played The Punisher in Punisher: War Zone and then went on to play Volstagg in Thor: The Dark World. But these were very different circumstances, as Punisher: War Zone and Fantastic Four were both owned by other studios, and therefore weren't actually part of the same cinematic universe.

But when asked if he was prevented from playing other roles in the MCU as a result of his Thor: The Dark World appearance, Levi replied,

Opening quote
"Oh no. I had a very interesting talk with Kevin Feige early on about it all and he said, 'Look, it doesn't preclude you from playing another Marvel character.' Chris Evans was The Human Torch and Captain America. Ray Stevenson was The Punisher and Volstagg. I did point out to him, 'In fairness, neither Fantastic Four nor The Punisher was actually a Marvel movie. You were a part of it but they were produced by other studios.' But he said, 'Look, I totally understand that but don't worry about it.' I don't know, if there's a right role that comes along and they want me to play it, I'd love to."

There have been a couple of other instances of actors playing multiple characters in the MCU, but there's never been an instance of an actor playing two distinct and significant characters while not heavily made up or altered with CGI. Paul Bettany voiced JARVIS and then played The Vision, but it was only a voice role, and JARVIS was supposedly used to create The Vision anyway, so it made sense for the two characters to have the same voice. And then Enver Gjokaj played a cop in Avengers and went on to play Daniel Sousa in Agent Carter, but the former was just a cameo role.

There have also been rumors that Vin Diesel will star in Inhumans as Black Bolt (most of which he started himself), after playing Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. But his physique was fully obscured while playing the sentient tree, so it wouldn't be too jarring to see him play another role in the MCU.

Actors Can Play More than One Character in the MCU

It's possible that this means Zachary Levi could potentially play a character that's primarily CGI or heavily made-up, like The Vision, but there's a small chance that he could play someone who looks human. His role in Thor: The Dark World was more significant than a cameo, but it certainly hasn't become iconic to Marvel fans, and as a talented actor, he could potentially make more of an impact with another character.
