X-Men: Apocalypse Producer Simon Kinberg Says Film "Culminates Trilogy"
Did you know that X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past were the first two films in a trilogy? A trilogy that's to be concluded with next year's X-Men: Apocalypse? Neither did we! But that sure sounds like what producer Simon Kinberg suggested is going on in the newest mutant movie when he spoke to Collider. Kinberg says of Apocalypse:

Opening quote
"It delivers on the dramatic story and emotion of the last two movies. It feels like the culmination of the four main characters really - McAvoy (Professor X), Fassbender (Magneto), Nic Hoult (Beast), and Jen (Mystique). And it's a bigger movie in both physical scale and I would say emotional stakes too because it is the culmination of this mini trilogy of stories."
Closing quote

That sure sounds like the end of a trilogy to us. Now, looking beyond the expected quotes about the movie being the biggest and most impactful film for this group of characters, maybe the bigger question is what does this mean for the rest of the franchise? Are those four actors out? Coupled with the departure of Hugh Jackman from the role of Wolverine following Wolverine 3, we could be looking at a future full of X-Men movies headlined by Jubilee and Havok.

The change of pace comes at an interesting time for the franchise, since Fox is following the Marvel model and expanding their X-universe with Deadpool and Gambit both headlining their own movies next year, a New Mutants film in development, and possible plans for an X-men/Fantastic Four crossover movie in the works (please don't let that happen, please don't let that happen).

So even though Fox letting a few actors possibly slip away looks like a "gambit", it definitely won't signal the "apocalypse" for the X-Men franchise, since there will still be plenty of "new mutants" to see in theaters... sorry.
