Maisie Williams to Star in Zombie YA Adaptation ‘The Forest of Hands and Teeth’
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams will star in the upcoming adaptation of The Forest of Hands and Teeth, the acclaimed YA novel by Carrie Ryan.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth is the first in a post-apocalyptic trilogy from the first-time author, followed by The Dead-Tossed Waves and The Dark and Hollow Places. It follows a young girl named Mary who lives in a fenced-in dystopian society following an unknown disaster that turned most of humanity into mindless cannibals.

Maisie Williams, who will star as Mary, has become a fan favorite playing Arya on Game of Thrones, and will guest star on Doctor Who this season as some kind of 18th century bandit. The film will be directed and written by Kate Maberly, who is best known for starring in The Secret Garden as a child and whose short, "Charlie's Supersonic Glider," is getting lots of buzz before its premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival. It will also be co-produced by Doug Liman, best known for The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow.

Opening quote
"I am so incredibly excited to be stepping into the 'Forest' and collaborating with such a brilliant creative mind as Doug's," Maberly said. "We can't wait to bring Ryan's fantastical world to life and are absolutely thrilled to have Maisie on board."

The official description for the novel reads:

Opening quote
In Mary's world there are simple truths.
   The Sisterhood always knows best.
The Guardians will protect and serve.
   The Unconsecrated will never relent.
And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth.
But, slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power. And, when the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness.
Now, she must choose between her village and her future, between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?
Closing quote

The Forest of Hands and Teeth is reportedly fast-tracked at Hetherwood Productions and will start production next year.
