The Walking Dead Casts Spoiler-y Comics Character Jesus for Season Six
The Walking Dead has just cast a key character from the comics for season six, Paul "Jesus" Monroe, who is instrumental to the Hilltop community plotline. His appearance is not only exciting on its own, but may make it more likely that certain iconic moments from the comics will be depicted onscreen this season, such as the introduction of Negan and a major character death.

In the comics, Jesus is an extremely logical but also highly moral man who serves as a liaison with the Hilltop community. He serves a function similar to Aaron's role in the Alexandria community, tracking other survivors and finding useful recruits. He will be played by Tom Payne, a British actor who is best known for his regular role in the BBC series Waterloo.

Possible spoilers ahead! (Click to reveal)

The confirmation that Jesus will appear this season may make several major comics plot points more likely. Jesus shows up right after the zombie horde invasion of Alexandria, and is crucial in the fight against the Saviors. There have been many rumors that the horde invasion will serve as the midseason finale, and the Wolves of the television show seem to be some version of the Saviors, as both groups use live walkers as traps for their enemies. Jesus's casting makes this theory more plausible, as the Hilltop colony comes into direct conflict with the Saviors in the comics. And if the Wolves really are the Saviors, then it's even more likely that we'll see Negan this season, as he serves as their leader.

This also makes it more likely that, as we predicted, Glenn will bite the bullet this season. Not only is Glenn killed by Negan, but his death propels Jesus into a key role in Rick's decision-making committee. Jesus, who is still alive in the comics, has become one of the most significant characters in the universe, so it's unlikely that it will take very long to give him a prominent role.

The Walking Dead returns for season six on October 11 at 9pm ET on AMC.
