Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Officially Gets a PG-13 Rating
No surprise here: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has been slapped with a PG-13 rating, same as Man of Steel, the Dark Knight trilogy, and pretty much every DC superhero movie in recent memory. (And Marvel for that matter, why Guardians of the Galaxy would need to be PG-13 is beyond me.)

The MPAA rated Batman v Superman PG-13 for "intense sequences of violence and action throughout, and some sensuality." This sounds really exciting, but again, their standards are really low. DC is definitely grittier than Marvel, but all of Marvel's recent films have been rated PG-13 for their relatively cartoonish action, so this isn't saying anything. (Don't even get us started on their standards about "sensuality," which are notoriously puritanical and sexist.)

The movie probably would have gotten more respect in certain ways if it were rated R, but unfortunately, that would have alienated a whole lot of their target audience, so here we are. But then again, there's probably no reason for it to be rated R; The Dark Knight was PG-13 and that was as disturbing as it needed to be. The question will really be whether Suicide Squad's quality will suffer as a result of its (presumed) PG-13 rating, as the supervillain mash-up could lead to some really crazy violence if they weren't worried about losing money.

Batman v Superman comes out in theaters on March 25, 2016.
